great point. i think that it's important to experience panels & talk with people in other fields that may not be your own, but certainly are related. it's incredibly valuable to be as well-rounded as possible.

Last year was my first year there, and while I won't make it this year, I learned one valuable lesson:

Even if your work paid for you to go, don't feel obligated to have to go to panels that are only related to your particular job. I missed a LOT of talks that sounded more interesting, but since they weren't related to web development, I skipped out on them. I really regretted that in the end, as it inhibited me from enjoying the event as much as I could have.

“The real value of SXSW is meeting all of the amazingly cool people in attendance. I went down to SXSW ‘09 a semi-n00b in the space, following Gary V. & AJV around everywhere they went. While in Austin, I met so many awesome people, made a ton of connections, and most importantly, left with three great new friends (can’t wait to see y’all!).”

My favourite part. I'm sure to be a n00b when I finally get down there being canadian and all, but this eases any hesitance i had about going.
