A Suggestion for the Twitter Suggested User List

Twitter By AJ Vaynerchuk Jan 27th |

Last week Twitter revamped their Suggested User List. For those of you new to the Suggested User list (SUL) Twitter describes the program as “a bit like your local book store’s staff picks but there’s a little more to it than that.” ( source ) The latest change has definitely improved the new user’s experience, but I still think there is room left for improvement ( I am sure Twitter feels the same way ).

If an account is on the SUL, then the account should also be verified. When I browse the SUL and put my “new user hat” on, the first thing that pops into my head is why is Wyclef Jean a verified user and Armin van Buuren not? Does this mean that the Armin van Buuren account is fake? Does this mean Wyclef is better than Armin in regards to Twitter usage?

Long story short, if the user is worth suggesting, I would have to imagine the user is worth verifying. New users are most certainly shying away from certain twitter users in fear of following a fake or worthless account.

Thoughts?

The Twitter verifying process is unfair, but then again so is their suggested user list.

I am consulting an austrian singer/songwriter and trying to help her with twitter…

I must say, i am a bit disapointed about twitters customer service, since i didnt find any support at all… I filled out the sign-up-form the way it should be and made sure to meet the requirements for her.

I did the sign-up-procedere from her account, because she didnt know how to handle it. I guess thats more then 4 months ago now, still no response from twitter.

When it comes to the article, i share AJ´s opinion. As much as i would love to discuss, my opinion about it, isnt any different from the above ;-)

PS: Id love to see more articles by you, AJ :-)

All the best from over here in Austria,

    Nico

I agree with Will Saint, both processes are unfair.

AJ, this makes perfect sense, and I’m sure Twitter will pick up on this soon and make the changes.

    Nice pick up my friend!

Nico, sorry to hear your customer service experience with Twitter hasn’t been the best – I can’t say I have experience the same problems. Every time I send an email to customer service I get a response in a timely fashion.

Thanks for the kind words, definitely planning to write more for our blog in the coming days, weeks, months and years!

Thanks for chiming in Anita! I think Twitter understands there is room for improvement and I am sure they will continue iterating!

Hey Will, thanks for chiming in. I agree with you about the verifying process – very unorganized and truly moves on with no rhyme or reason. The suggested user list is a little more fair in the sense that it actually has a use – showing new users that there are great users on the service. I would love to see more consistency, it would only make sense for Twitter to verify suggested users.

Thanks Lewis. These things come with time. I know Twitter has a lot on their plate and I am sure they will get there soon enough!
